I had a great time scrapbooking last night. I carved away 5 hours last night, and got two layouts completed to document 1 story. I am such a slow scrapbooker. Studio Calico had some great challenges going on, and I used 3 of the challenges in my layouts. On the 12 x 12 layout I used a stamp set that I bought 1 year ago and never inked up (Challenge 2) and used a mint, pink, navy, and gold color scheme (Challenge 1) I first started by adhering the strips of patterned paper, stamping in gold and mermaid, and then added the stitching.

The 6 x 12 layout tells the story behind all of the photos. I used Washi tape 3 ways (Challenge 3) on this small layout: as a background, on the photo, and for the triangle shapes. After adhering everything, except the photo, and added splashes of black ink.

Now that Spring is finally here, it is not as depressing to scrapbook this winter's photos. This weekend, I got together with my friend, Marisa, and decided I was finally up to scrapbooking some winter photos. I just couldn't do it while we were still getting snow in March and even earlier this month. I loved the glittery snow and the angle that I took the of the photo on the left side of this 8.5 x 11, 2 page spread, so I decided to use the entire photo as the page and use the snow as a backdrop for the title with embellishments. I used the card Sunday Sketch from Studio Calico for the right page. The kraft die cuts looked a little dull, so I stitched around the 2014 and over the heart and arrow on the photo frames. This was a pretty quick layout.
I just loved this Sunday Sketch over at Studio Calico and had to play along. I took the sketch and added a little something on the side and used one photo rather than the two. I do have a few techniques on this 8.5 x 11 layout: 1) stitched random triangles, 2) added splashes of Opaque White mist using an eye dropper, 3) tore and pulled up the ridge of paper on the right hand side. I wanted to distress it with the torn paper and mist in order to take away the quilt-y, cleanness of the layout.

I am trying to document more of the everyday life stuff, and this completed layout will go into a 2014 everyday life album. I did PL last year (I should post some of that ), and I am still not done. I took an open approach to the PL last year by not documenting by month rather than week and not caring if one month had more info than others. I have only finished through May and I am fighting the feeling of being behind and stressed out about finishing the album, so obviously this was not open enough. I will create any format that I feel like, which includes 12x12, 8.5x11, 8x8, 12x6, and PL formats. I am going to scrapbook in any order I feel like and put it into the album, which will get organized when it is full. I would like to think this will go better and be less stressful :)
Last night I made this fun crocodile card for a friend. She wanted an animal themed baby card that wasn't a traditional baby card. This is what I came up with using the Zoo Crew stamp set from Paper Smooches. I colored the gator with copics and glossy accented his eyes to make them shiny - that aspect is kinda lost in the photos.

I made up the sentiment and printed it directly onto the cardstock. Add a printer and any stamp set become more versatile!
I made these cookies yesterday. I found out that I am a whiz at making shamrocks, and the leprechaun's were so much easier than I thought they would be. I made the leprechaun and plaid cookies based on some online inspiration. I found it, pinned, and made it. I used buttercream rather than royal icing, since I think it tastes better on a sugar cookie. Although, it doesn't have that super clean look llike royal icing. But, at the end of the day they have to taste good. I am not a professional, but I think they turned out pretty great :). The links to my cookie inspiration are found here and here.
Long time no post. I have had a crazy 2013 with lots (I mean lots of change). I have been doing some crafting, but no posting. My goal is to post more regularly. I am going to change the blog-o a little bit. I hope to not only post more paper crafts, but use my blog as a way to document my house transformations, and the litany of DIY projects that I plan to try. My Pinterest is brimming with them.
I am kicking off my first 2014 post with a scrapbook page. Marisa came over last weekend, and I knew I had to use my Instax to capture our crafty gathering. I added some stitching and gathered ribbon to give it a hand crafted feel to match the subject of the page. I added some Barnwood Mister Huey's to add more visual interest.
As soon as Freezy Fellas came out, I had to order it! I also might have had to also buy the Christmas Greeting and Santa Paws. I had been eyeing Santa Paws for a year. I had the opportunity to play with my Paper Smooches goodies during my crafty weekend with Marisa.

Here are a few of the cards (and a tag) that I created. These sets are so fun.

Here a few fun Crafty notes:

I used a sewing machine to add a border and stripes to the tags behind Santa. The doggy is paper pieced, highlighted with a warm colored Copic, and glossy accents were added to his nose. The reindeer was embossed in white and then colored with a copics (be careful not to get the marker on the embossing powder. I also created black bubble eyes on the reindeer by coloring white pearls with a black copic.

Have a Happy Turkey Day!

I just got back from Scrapfest at the MOA with my friend Janie. It was a blast! We stayed up late, took a few classes, and did some shopping. I didn't do too many make and takes, since the lines were soooooo long. I could not resist this photo op at the Smash Booth. I ran it through Photoshop Express on my iPhone to add the layered post card.

And on to the card. Here is a card that I made Janie for her Birthday. I just love the optional smiley faces you can add to the food items on the Alfresco stamp by Paper Smooches. I originally bought the set thinking I would eventually have a BBQ and would want to send out fun invites. Then, I realized it would make a unique b-day card for my gal pal. I stamped the grill in the background and colored away.
In my last post I said how much I love Paper Smooches. I had a fun weekend last weekend with Marisa and had fun with washi and Paper Smooches. I adhered washi, added a few staples and colored the super cute clock from Perpetual Bliss, cut the image out and popped it up. I also love the kraft chevron paper. The print is large enough that you can add busy printed washi as an overlay without being overwhelming.

I figure I will also post updates from the homefront on the crafty blog. Last night I had fun planting perennials in the front yard. It looks so much cleaner. Once I get the mulch down I will share some photos.
Long time, no post. So....it has been more than one year with an inactive blog. A lot has happened since my last post. Mainly, we bought a house and have been working on house projects and I have been in several papercrafts publications. I finally have my dream craftroom and will need to post photos of my new digs.

I decided I needed to participate in a Moxie Fab Challenge - Splatter Technique for the re-inaugeration of my blog. I had fun with washi and mists and a fun sentiment from Paper Smooches. I heart Paper Smooches stamps.
It has been a busy one around here. I started training for another half marathon, revamped the craft room including new cabinets and storage solutions (photos this month - I swear), been playing with my new iPhone, and you can't forget about the job. Well, that is my month in a nutshell.

Now onto a craty project -- I finally got a chance to play in the craftroom (as opposed to organizing) and made a masculine card using the Basic Grey/Hero Arts Paper and Stamps. I stamped the ticket on patterned paper and vanilla, fussy cut the tickets, layered them, and then popped the top ticket up using foam tape. This card is so me - bright, fun, and a clean and simple design.

I also do need to share these fun photos I took with my phone this morning. Yes, it is April 18th and it snowed and stuck to the ground. Where is Spring?
I did have 1 card accepted - YEA!!!!!! I always thought it would bother me that I would have rejected cards, but it really doesn't. Strange (I know) but I figured that those rejected cards are cards that I really like, and I those cards will make happy mail in their lifetime. Only 8.6% of cards submitted for this issue were accepted. I am part of that small percentage, and that makes me happy :) What also makes me happy is that Amber is having a Reject Blog hop, which makes the idea of being a reject fun! So add your reject and join the fun.

Here is a card that was inspired by one of the sketches. I love everything about this card, got to reuse some old denim jeans, and have a baby card that is ready to go!
The Getting Daring with Decorative Tape Challenge on the Moxie Fab Blog, is ending on March 7th, so I thought I would give it a go one more time. This time I used strips of washi tape to create a border on my card in place of patterned paper. I wanted to ruffle the fabric tape, but let's face it ruffles are not very masculine. Instead of ruffles I added wrinkles to the fabric tape to keep it masculine, but still add a little bit of texture. I added a little patterned paper and some corrugated letters by Jillibean Soup that I misted with brown and bronze mists. This was a very quick card - very easy, but I think it a fun masculine card.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Techniques week on the Moxie Fab Blog. For this challenge I colored my stamped image with some copic markers - it is so fun to shade with these suckers :-) I chose my color scheme for my a-la-modes stamp from My Favorite things by using the fabulous colors in the Pasta Fagioli collection by Jillibean Soup. I really love this collection. I bought the paper for vacation pages, but I just can't help but use it on this punny cards. This stuff is just too cute to hoard (I know it is so rare for me to say that).
**This is going to be a Moxie-tastic week on the blog. All posts are for Moxie Fab Blog challenges, because they are so fun. You really have to play along!!!

This card was created for the Stamp It! Techniques Paper Piecing Challenge. I stamped the rose on some Indie Girl paper by Sassafras and leaves on Jillibean Soup paper. I cut out the roses and leaves, shaded them with copics, layered them, attached the flowers to the card front, and finally added some random glitter (which didn't photograph that well). Glitter makes everything better!!!!

Hope you are having a great week.

One of the many challenges going on for technique week is Stamping with Shimmer Sprays. For this challenge I used mists in two ways: 1) misting ribbon, 2) misting an embossed image.

To create the main image I embossed the bicylce in white on patterned paper. I sprayed blue mist on the bike and then wiped it off to make sure the white really shows through, which adds a fun spotlight to the bike. I wanted to draw a little more attention to the bike so I used liquid pearls and green glitter to the flowers in the basket.
I have been so busy at work I didn't even have time to post some fun (and dare I say cute) cards that I made over Marisa's last weekend. I absolutely love the challenges over at the Moxie Fab blog. One of the challenges is Getting Daring with Decorative Tape, and since I love washi tapes I had to play along. I created three flowers of different sizes, blinged them out with some rhinestone brads that I have been hoarding (I can't help it they are just so pretty) and layered them on the scrolled die-cut background. I mixed up my tapes by using 1 fabric and two of the different patterns of washi tape.
And to celebrate the occasion, they are having a super fun VIP blog hop with the theme "the things we love". The entire design team invited special crafters to play along in this hop. You should have arrived from Randee's blog, who so kindly invited me to play along. If not go to the Paper Makeup Stamps company blog for a master list as well as to enter yourself to win a super fabulous prize!

It is so versatile. On one card I paired it with a Sassafras Felty to make a cute boy baby card and I used it to make a more elegant b-day/congrats card using the same scalloped circle image.

The baby card was super easy because the circle fits right inside the 1 3/4 inch circle punch. This was probably a 10 minute card - no lie! For the classier card I stamped the circle in a row and cut the row out. I adhered it to the card by stitching it down and then I repeated and layered to create offset scallops.
I can't remember the last time I actually had time to participate in a PTI blog hop. Finally things are getting to a normal speed at work and home, and I have had a little time to create. The pet sympathy stamps was one of the first stamps I had bought from PTI and I have only used it once (about 1 month after I bought it). This months hop is to use a never inked or a stamp set that has been collecting a little dust. This is one of those dusty stamps, so I decided to ink it up so I had some just in case cards.

I don't like to make sympathy cards too complex. I like to keep it clean so the focus is on the message. Off to hop!
